A Different Kind of World

Hey there, I am Elena, a textile, fibre and mixed media artist based on the Surrey/Hampshire border in the UK. I work across a range of materials including fabric, yarn, polymer clay, paint and reclaimed objects, to create art and patterns that celebrate creativity, curiosity, and the stores that objects can hold.

I spent decades trying to squeeze myself into a world of “normal” that simply didn’t fit. As a yet undiagnosed neurodivergent person, I am discovering through art and crafts that there is a whole world out there where I don’t need to change. A world that doesn’t itch, or demand from me what I can’t give it. A world full of fantasy and magic.

Finding Magic

My work sits somewhere between traditional craft, quiet folklore and the idea that the things we make can carry meaning and personality.

I combine craft and playful imagination, creating handmade accessories, miniature scenes, and projects inspired by folklore, nature, and the symbolism often found in witchcraft traditions.

The result is a collection of small objects with personality — pieces that feel a little unusual, a little mysterious, and full of character.

A Different Way of Making

Much of my work begins with reclaimed or donated materials — fabric, yarn, beads, and craft supplies that might otherwise be discarded. They already carry a history, and part of the magic is finding new life and new stories for them.

Different materials often find their way into the same piece, and experimentation is part of the joy of making. This keeps my work grounded in sustainability while bringing a sense of unpredictability and wonder to my process.

Why Stitch Witch?

When I started to realise how important creativity is to my mental health and wellbeing, I began my journey with sewing and crochet. Over time I have added other crafts and materials, but stitching is still at the heart of my work.

When I needed to find a direction for my crafting work, the energy behind my creativity, I turned to magic. I love magic: I love its fantasy version with pointy hats, wands and dragons, and I love real magic, found in harnessing the power and beauty of nature and intention.

Not the dramatic kind, but the quiet everyday kind, taking simple materials and transforming them into something unexpected and full of character.
